A little bit about us...

In the beginning...

The Car Club was formed during the spring of 2003 by Chad Kettner and several of his friends. It remained an unofficial club until the start of the 2003-2004 academic year at Hope, during which membership grew and we obtained the status of an official club at Hope College. That meant we had a budget, college-provided transportation to events, and an Advisor to assist our group in staying active (and within the rules!) of the Hope College community. Life was good as we found ourselves forming new friendships with others in the club through both events and other parties.

What we do...

Perhaps the better question is what don't we do? The Car Club focuses on the growth and improvement of its members' lives through learning and experiencing all the fun and enjoyment of automobile technology. In other words, we attend car shows, visit tuner and mechanics shops, hit the drag strips, and of course, have tons of fun! Ever worried about buying a new performance part and how to install it? Not a problem as the club has more than enough members who have dealt with all sorts of installations and installs. We've even done auto to manual swaps, turbo kit installs, and standalone engine management tuning! There's no task that's too difficult for us to help with.

Who's all involved?

The Car Club has quite a few members, although it is difficult to nail down an exact number at any given time. People move, graduate, or find other interests to spend their time on. We also gain new members faster than we can keep track of. At last count, the club had over 30 members. Interested in joining?

Who's in charge here?

Good question. The 2006-2007 Executive Board is as follows:

President: Travis Dyke (e-mail)
Vice President: Brian Wyns (e-mail)
Secretary: TBA (e-mail)
Treasurer: TBA (e-mail)
Historian: Chad Kettner (e-mail)
Advisor: Tony VanHouten (e-mail)

These are the people that set the direction and plan the activies for the Car Club. If you have any ideas or complaints, contact them and they will do their best to address them. If you are feeling lucky, try for a position on the Board. Candidates are announced in late March with the vote taking place during early April. The newly chosen board then serves for the next academic year.
